The Tall Ships Festival started in 1984 and is the Ocean
Institute’s premier annual event, drawing thousands to Dana
Point’s beautiful harbor. This festival celebrates
California’s rich maritime history and our connection to the
Tall Ships America’s TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® is an annual series
that rotates on a three-year cycle between the Atlantic Coast,
Great Lakes and the Pacific Coast. Since 2001, Tall Ships America
has coordinated more than 87 TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE® events in 54
cities, attracting more than 22 million visitors and stimulating
in excess of $1.8 billion in aggregate economic and tourism
activity for the host ports.
