What is included in my registration?

Your Girls in Ocean Science Registration includes:

  • Conference admission for one middle or high school-aged participant
  • Conference t-shirt
  • Continental breakfast
  • Boxed lunch

What kind of food is served at the conference?

Our conference includes a continental breakfast for all attendees including bagels, muffins, coffee, hot coco, and fresh fruit.

Lunch is a gourmet boxed lunch which includes sandwich, fruit, pasta salad, chips, and a cookie.

Please make sure that you note any dietary restrictions or allergies in your registration form. The Ocean Institute will work with our caterer to accommodate dietary restrictions we are aware of ahead of time.

Will my child be on a boat?

Yes, every Girls in Ocean Science participant will spend part of the day on the Ocean Institute’s USCG certified vessel, the R/V Sea Explorer

This is a United States Coast Guard certified vessel and is equipped with all necessary emergency equipment.

What’s the dress code?

Please dress in warm layers as you will spend part of the day at sea and part of the day in Ocean Institute’s research labs. Closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes are required. We recommend pants, comfortable shoes, hat, and a water-proof jacket.

What else should we bring?

Come prepared to learn and armed with pencil, paper, sunscreen, and refillable water bottle.

What if my child needs to leave early?

If your child is not staying the entire day, please contact us directly to make early pick-up arrangements. Because some groups will be on the R/V Sea Explorer, early pick-up must be arranged in advance to ensure your participant is at the Ocean Institute.

Can parents stay?

Thank you for encouraging your child to explore the sciences; this conference is only for middle or high school girls. Parents, guardians, and teachers are welcome to come say good-bye, but cannot remain on campus once the event starts.
