A Message From Our Board Chair
Welcome
Over the past thirty years, the Ocean Institute has grown from a one-man operation to an internationally renowned educational facility. During this time, I have had the privilege to serve in a variety of roles: Volunteer, Board Member, and now Board Chair. I am honored to step into my new position as Chair and will continue to move the Institute forward as a premier educational destination.
This past year has been especially wonderful as we have celebrated our 30th anniversary with our Year of the Teacher festivities and the introduction of our Teacher Club. We have also set a new attendance record by serving over 116,000 students through our Marine Science, Maritime History, and Outdoor Education programs. To top off a great year, we were recently awarded "Business of the Year" by the Dana Point Chamber of Commerce - this was the first time the award was presented to a non-profit organization.
The coming months will be just as exciting as we expand our facilities with the new Seaside Learning Center and raise additional funds for education with the 4th Annual Laguna Beach Million Dollar Home Raffle. As we increase awareness of the Ocean Institute, we are able to expand our mission of ocean education. The Board Members and I have a strong passion for ocean preservation and will work diligently with the community to continually broaden our reach in education.
